What elements make a pub extra special? Sometimes in London you can see two almost identical pubs on the same road and one of them will be packed while the other has tumbleweeds blowing through it.
What is that x-factor that makes a pub truly great?
Landord/lady personality. Pub pet. Music or no music or jukebox? Pool or darts (or billiards). What beer is a must? Sawdust on the floor or leather armchairs and carpet?

when the pub is busy, but you can somehow still find a seat…
more than one lager.
charging less than my weekly rent for a pint.
lock ins, free beer and hot staff are also a bonus

i forgot to mention food! If a pub does a truly good sunday dinner then it goes on my list.

if no one else was in it you might aswell be at home! You need at least one old drunk guy falling asleep into his pint to make it entertaining

So that’s why they were laughing at me!
A good pub needs carpets, real ale, wooden furniture (no bloody sofas), a dart board, good jukebox, efficient staff and a host of lovely ladies to thrill the eye.

A good pub for me is one without a big dog running around, or laying around or being anywhere in the pub… and I love dogs mind you! Just not in a place I go to eat and drink….
A few sofas and arm chairs are also cool, even better if they have a little living room type area with a fireplace (real or fake, i’ll take it).

Real ale is a must. It needs to have the ability to show live sport (but not all the time) and they MUST do a death row sunday roast.

I like the cat in the blind beggar. Cats are cool. But so are the beer drinking dogs that get brought into The Greenwich Union.
Yep, pups and kitties definately help. Much more than a hamster would.

What makes a good pub? A nice cold pint…comfy corners to chill with your mates…a great roast dinner…and a dartboard in the corner…

Somewhere with a nice atmosphere, a nice cold drink, great food somewhere you can feel chilled and relaxed.

I find that having a nice chatty person behind the bar that you can have a little bit of small talk with without them looking completly bored and fed up with you makes for a nice place to have a beer.
