Mexican food in London

Why is it so hard to get our tastebuds on decent Mexican food in London? Yes, Wahaca is a great new addition to Covent Garden, but what about some lovely spicy grub on the fly? Since the now legendary Beach Burrito closed down it's been really hard to find anywhere which will serve you something spicy and covered in cheese and guacamole for under a tenner! So give us your tips, your recipes, your secret South American-themed haunts and sate our craving for everything Mexican.

  El Mestizo is a great place for REAL Mexican food, but only IF you go 'downstairs’ for the Tacos night!! (prices from £1 a taco, every Thursday, from 7pm)

  On Thursdays, you will hardy see a mexican soul dining at the restaurant section. The mexican customers are downstairs, enjoying themselves tucking in almost-home-like tacos and huaraches and a variety of colourful salsas and garnish to choose from. Meanwhile, the -unfortunate- clientele at the restaurant are eating food that, in my opinion, is besides overly priced, not as great as it used to be. While Mestizo have never been a cheap eat, food was worth every penny and more (specially for I dare say, us mexicans). However, I find now the flavour, freshesnes and sadly, the overall quality is gone down. I hope the up their standards again…

  Although the menu delivers authentic Mexican cuisine sense, I have found, every time that the food comes out warm, wheat tortillas are served unless you order real ones (maize/corn based) and the drinks are poorly served (even more so, if you order a cocktail jug!!). Adding up, more recently, the taste is canned-food like… I personally find it overly-priced for what it -now- delivers. Tacos nights, however are still an excellent option: authentic taste, fresh food, great price, great atmosphere.
