Tate Gallery St Ives - St. Ives

Porthmeor Beach, St. Ives, Cornwall TR26 1TG

11.03.2012

Not really impressed with the Tate St Ives at all. We’re Tate members and have to say the layout leaves a lot to be desired and the selection of artwork on both trips were disappointing. I’d expect more from the Tate.

nantcol waterfalls - Llanbedr

Cefn Uchaf, Llanbedr, Llanbedr, Gwynedd County LL45 2PL

11.03.2012

This is probably one of my favourite campsites of all time. Beautiful setting. If you go midweek and before school is let out on holiday, it’s peaceful, lots of space and you can build campfires.

They have a small shop and new facilities.

There is a lot of walking around to do and beautiful waterfall area for hiking about (but you must be careful).

The owners are terrific and deliver firewood to your tent.

The beginning of our camping here was terrific, again before school holidays started. On our last night it was the beginnin go school summer holidays and it got quite busy so if you want peace, go midweek.

Will definitely return.

St Davids Cathedral - St. Davids

The Close, Haverfordwest, Wales SA62 6RH

11.03.2012

Beautiful old cathedral in the heart of St Davids Wales. Grand and beautiful.

Porthclais Farm Campsite - St. Davids

St Davids, Haverfordwest, Wales SA62 6RR

11.03.2012

This review comes with a warning – be sure to check the weather forecast before pitching here – if winds and heavy rain are predicted, avoid. Or pitch your tent over by the hedges. the owner even tried to persuade us not to extend our stay but we just didn’t listen (our fault).

Now, onto the good things. Great location and if you love walking, the coast and the cliffs are right on your doorstep here. When we were there the site was virtually empty as it was midweek – with that said people probably read the forecast – ha. We had a few days of great weather, the last two not so good.

The site is a nice walk from the village of St Davids so if you’re into walking this is a treat. It’s remote so the only sounds you hear at night is the ocean breeze.

They even have a local delivery of milk and bread delivered right into the campground if you need.

Would definitely return here when the weather is predicted to be sunny.

Camping & Caravanning Club - Kingsbridge

Sands Road, Middlegrounds, Kingsbridge, Devon TQ7 2QW

11.03.2012

It’s quite a big campsite and well maintained but they cram them in here. Would be so much nicer if they the accepted fewer people so it wasn’t so cramped.

Slapton Village Shop - Kingsbridge

Sands Road, Kingsbridge, Devon TQ7 2QN

11.03.2012

We were camping in the area and as this is the only shop in the village needed to buy a couple of items. The shop hours are that of a village, only open at certain times. Bought local fresh bread and eggs here. Friendly and courteous.

Victoria Inn - Llanbedr

Llanbedr, Gwynedd County LL45 2LD

11.03.2012

We were camping in the area and walked here for a few pints. Can’t say anything about the food as we only drank but it was quite nice and is located by a nice stream with great outdoor seating area.

If in the area and it’s a beautiful day out, I’d definitely recommend!

Harlech Castle - Harlech

Castle Square, Harlech, Gwynedd County LL46 2YH

11.03.2012

Really beautiful ruins of a castle. It’s not huge but a lot of fun climbing about.

Be warned, the high up places can be a bit spooky (meaning way up high). Beautiful and nice views of the sea as well. Great thing when we went it wasn’t that busy.

If this region, it’s definitely worth a stop by!

Rose & Crown - Brockenhurst

Lyndhurst Road, Brockenhurst, Hampshire SO42 7RH

11.03.2012

This review is simply for the beer / garden as we didn’t eat here. And it was back in 2009.

We were camping in the New Forest so decided to take a walk to Brockenhurst and to grab a drink in the nearby town.

We stumbled across a couple of pubs and on the way back to the campsite decided to pop in here. What a huge beer garden and nicely maintained. Quite a large selection of beers and ales.

As it was the start of the camping season and midweek, we were lucky and arrived when it wasn’t busy.

If you’re in the New Forest and this region, I’d highly recommend for a pint!

Penny's Cafe - Orford

Pump Street, Woodbridge, Suffolk IP12 2LZ

11.03.2012

After touring the Orford Castle we were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and found Penny’s.

First off, it was about 2pm in the afternoon and when we tried to order a couple of selections off the menu, we were told they had run out. Which to me was a good thing as they only serve fresh food.

We opted for the homemade sausage rolls and side of potatoes, all delivered to perfection. Not your typical sausage roll but fresh and use of local meats.

The interesting thing about this place, it is also connected to a general store which is quite cool and a nice retreat from your supermarket shopping.

If you’re in this area, I’d recommend you try and locate this place. But get there on the earlier side!
