St. Mary The Virgin - Nottingham

High Pavement, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 1HN

17.09.2011

This is a very beautiful building with a pleasent , if small churchyard . It is fairly old , the main body of the church dates back to 1377 . The stained glass windows are very nice , in fact the whole interior is lovely . Every year they have a Christmas Carol service that quite a lot of people attend – even people like me who are not christian . Its worth a look around if you have a little time to kill and are sick of the shops .

Old Market Square - Nottingham

Old Market Square, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 2DT

17.09.2011

I love this place , it is one of the most used public spaces I’ve ever seen – certainly the most popular in Nottingham . At weekends the square is teeming with people all out to see and be seen . There are very regular events laid on by the council and others for people to enjoy – and they are all free . There is always something good for Christmas , St Paterick’s Day – and for the last few years St George’s Day . There is a very nice branch of Starbucks on the corner of the square , a Greggs just up the street , a Subway and several pubs within 3 minutes walk . Its easy to get there , the tram stops in the square and so do lots of buses

Tales Of Robin Hood - Nottingham

30-38 Maid Marian Way, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 6GF

17.09.2011

This has closed down now and as far as I know won’t be opening up again .

Nottingham Castle - Nottingham

Friar Lane, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 6DJ

17.09.2011

This is a nice place to visit , they quite often have events in the grounds , most of which are free . There is a gift shop in the gate house selling the usual Robin Hood bits and pieces – but not Alan Rickman , sadly . Its quite a big hill to the castle from the gate so beware if you have uncomfortable shoes or wheelchairs in your party . The view from the top is good . Every once in a while there are trips to the roof , often around Christmas .

Kayes Pet Centre - Nottingham

17 Trinity Walk, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 2AN

16.09.2011

I’ve never had a problem with this shop and I’ve never seen any animals looking distressed – but I had heard a lot of people say they’ve seen signs of neglect . The staff have been helpful to me when I’ve shopped here . I have never brought a pet here , just food and bedding . Everything I’ve had has been fine . Maybe it improved since they wrote their reviews – or maybe I’ve just been lucky .

Pets At Home - Nottingham

9a Castle Bridge Road, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG7 1GX

16.09.2011

This is a great shop , the prices are reasonable and the staff are helpful . Anyone would enjoy watching the animals in the viewing area , the rabbits and guinea pigs are so sweet . I like that they have " second chance animals " at the back of the shop and a charity to re-home pets .

Maun Valley Trail - Mansfield Woodhouse

Peafield Lane, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

16.09.2011

Nice running or walking trail for those days when you don’t want to go all the way to the countryside . I have said that the trail starts at Peafield Lane – but its actually a circular walk and you could get on and off anywhere you wanted to . If you do the whole thing its 9.54 km .

Foxcovert Plantation - Nottingham

the B6386 towards Oxton, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG14 6NW

16.09.2011

This is a beautiful woodland walk , it never gets too busy and stays quite dry underfoot even in the winter .

The site is a secondary mixed deciduous woodland believed to be on the site of part of the ancient Sherwood Forest. High numbers of fungal species suggest that the plantation was established on the site of ancient woodland. Survey work on moths and other invertebrates has produced records of species only found in Sherwood Forest woodlands, adding further support to this theory.
The main wood covers more than 7 hectares and was clear felled about 50 years ago. This contains predominately oak and birch, with sycamore, sweet chestnut, rowan, coppiced lime and several other species. Rhododendron and bracken formerly dominated areas of open ground, but have been brought under control over the last few years. The main wood is linked to two small areas, formerly copses called Big Emily and Little Emily, by a grassy ride bordered by a single line of poplars and a tall hawthorn hedge.

Teversal Grange - Sutton-in-Ashfield

Teversal Trail Visitors Centre Carnarvon Street, Teversal, (off Fackley Road), Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire NG17 3HJ

This is a really nice place to go for a walk in the countyside . There are several different trails , 12 at the last count and there are maps and guides for the walks for all of them to download at http://www.teversaltrails.com/trails.htm
The trails are partly wheelchair accessible , there is free parking at the visitors centre , a public toilet and a small cafe where you can get drinks , snacks and leaflets .
